Robert ButtersIndianapolis, INJanuary 17, 2008I,m tired of all the lip service. Promises, promises, etc. to get elected for another two years then to hell with what we said voters will forget. It's not YOUR MONEY.

Barry OwensNoblesville, INJanuary 17, 2008Time to do the right thing, we're running out of time. The opportunity to get a base standard begins with the right choices, which currently have the American people wondering which canidates really stand for what the people of this great nation stand for. Seems the opportunity to show the people the time is now begins with Rep Flake.

Darryl CarterMinneapolis, MNJanuary 17, 20081995 seems SO long ago now. My idealism got a big boost of refresher, when the GOP went to a Governor, speaking in a State House chamber, for its response to the President's State-of-the-Union address. Brilliant! Great symbolism, that this new broom actaually means what it says, and will soon set about devolving power FROM Washington! Too bad, so sad. Their next big moves were to name an expanded government new building after a President who preached smaller government....and then re-named an airport for him, as well. Wow! Heavy stuff! VERY impressive, boys and girls! Then, the fools began a reign of borrow-and-spend earmarks uber alles. Let the children pay! Let's buy the Old People's vote with a new Medicare Prescription Drug entitlement! Let the grandchildren pay! And, let's inject the United States government into the most personal business of a single family in Florida! Next, let's back off that hunt for Osama, and launch an elective war instead, to show Dad how Iraq should REALLY be handled! The federal-level GOP has gone seriously, wildly, irresponsibly astray, Ladies and Gentlemen. Fall back, grow up and begin to pull this Republic back from the...[trimmed for length]

Mike SherwoodGilbert, AZJanuary 17, 2008Sir I urge you to appoint Rep. Jeff Flake to the vacant Republican seat in the Appropriations Committee. We need very badly to get back to our conservative principals. Fiscal responsibilitie should be our first order of business. Jeff Flakes appointment would be a key to that beginning. Respectfully, Mike Sherwood

John KnauerMetairie, LAJanuary 17, 2008It's time for CONSERVATIVE control in the Congress AND the WHITE HOUSE. Appointing Jeff Flake to the Appropriations Committee is a great first step.
Tim LucasNorth Ogden, UTJanuary 17, 2008x
David StoneNashua, NHJanuary 17, 2008When the Republicans gained the majority they suddenly became just as greedy and irresponsible as the Democrats. What a disgrace. An opportunity lost to really show what conservative principles can achieve. Now that the majority has been lost, Republicans need to get back to those principles if they ever want to be taken seriously again. Talk is cheap.

J. P. PattieMesa, AZJanuary 17, 2008Jeffs is my Congressman. Proud to support him.
Patricia HarrisRoanoke, VAJanuary 17, 2008We need to have term limits and zero earmarks ( pork ). Maybe a ban on naming bridges, post offices, etc. for members of Congress will put a stop to it. I would never allow something to be named for me - it would be an embarrasment.

J. Kenton GroomsKnoxville, TNJanuary 17, 2008Let's put the brakes on this out-of-control spending. Republicans are getting the blame for it whether or not.
Fred PROPHETERWalkersville, MDJanuary 17, 2008JUST DO IT!!!
William ReedMamaroneck, NYJanuary 17, 2008Government grows at the expense of personal liberty, the founding principle of this nation. Stop the madness! Appoint Rep. Flake!
James GardnerSpotsylvania, VAJanuary 17, 2008Has the Republican party finally decided to stop the hemorrhaging caused by their spending policies? The voters will be watching you to see.
Beverly ColtRedding,, CAJanuary 17, 2008The earmarking that goes on in Congress is literally stealing money out of the taxpayers pockets. Your selected candidate sounds like someone who will literally look after the American people. As for the rest of Congress, my solution is TERM LIMITS! They could do their civic service and then go home and live under the laws they create for everyone else. ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY!
Deborah ClairdayMammoth Spring, ARJanuary 17, 2008This is the smart thing to do!
Jon PiperNewport, VTJanuary 17, 2008Proving that Republicans are serious in restraining the out of control spending in Congress is the true path back to the majority.

W. SpillaneManhattan Beach, CAJanuary 17, 2008It isn't enough to be "the lesser evil"; do what's right or spend the next forty years in the minority, again!
John CartledgeAllentown, PAJanuary 17, 2008We must prove to America that the Republican Party is once again the party of limited government and fiscal responsibility: Jeff Flake is the right man for Appropriations!
Susanna McNeilChicago, ILJanuary 17, 2008We need a leader like Flake to reign in wasteful spending.
Nathan LipscombSan Antonio, TXJanuary 17, 2008Do something about earmarks and put Jeff Flake on the appropriations committee.
Shelly MoorePlantation, FLJanuary 17, 2008It's time to tighten the belt in Washington. We need to put an end to this mindless spending. Jeff Flake has stood up to pork barrel spending and would be an asset to your committee.
Don FriedkinRye, NYJanuary 17, 2008Flake is the guy to put the brake on earmarks
Ralph D. (Dave) Bleacher)Albuquerque, NMJanuary 17, 2008You lost the 2006 elections because you did not adhere to Conservative Principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, etc. And you will continue to lose elections if you don't wake up.

Alan AsawaSteubenville, OHJanuary 17, 2008We absolutely need politicians who have the vision that will lead our nation in the fiscal direction that will allow us to maintain our critical role as world leader in the face of fascist Islam.
Irving BaumNew York, NYJanuary 17, 2008If earmarks were halted, we could easily balance the budget and reduce the deficit in short order. Earmarks are a form of political patronage given out by and large by those legislators who pander to the recipients in an attempt to ensure their own re-election -- in other words, a bribe!! This is outrageous.
Michael JohnstonTucson, AZJanuary 17, 2008Jeff Flake has earned a seat on the House Appropriations Committee, and then some. If for no other reason than the powerful message that would send to the whole House.
Marilyn SchenkReno, NVJanuary 17, 2008Everything I know about Jeff Flake tells me he is a good man and went to Washington to make changes. Do the right thing and put him on the appropriations committee.

Ronald KauffmanWinton, CAJanuary 17, 2008The federal government's deviation from fiscal prudence over the past 60 years(along with failure to secure our borders)may prove to be the fundamental causes for the downfall of the USA. Congratulations, Pols!! Lenin was right. The plum is falling. Only actions such as the Flake appointment can stem the fall.

Daniel PrattDecatur, ALJanuary 17, 2008If the Republican Party is interested in the continuation of losing elections, do not select Rep Flake for the open seat on the House Appropriations Committee.

Mel MartenMiami Beach, FLJanuary 17, 2008I used to be Republican, but I switched to full card-carrying Libertarian when the Republicans became big-government spenders. I'll never come back until the Republican party cleans up its spending act- Jeff Flake will help! Mel Marten, CEO - www.ClaroConnect.com
Jim CoffmanCentennial, COJanuary 17, 2008WE, the American Taxpayers demand that Jeff Flake be appointed to the appropriations committee to help stop the waste of OUR money on congressional earmarks.
William GillinColorado Springs, COJanuary 17, 2008Pork kings like Sen. Ted Stevens are a disgrace to the country and to the Republican party. Until our leaders reign in pork spending, they do not deserve to be in office! We need fiscal conservatives like Rep. Flake!
william nolanSt. Louis, MOJanuary 17, 2008Unless Republicans begin the return to fiscal responsibility-in part by appointing Jeff Flake to the House Appropriations Committee-six members of my immediate family and forty-two members of my extended family will stop all contributions to and voting for Republican candidates and causes IMMEDIATELY.
David FloreaDonald, ORJanuary 17, 2008Agree with what others are saying -- it's been starting to feel like there's no difference between Republicrats and Demicans. We need to return to our principles, that's what will win elections and maybe -- just maybe -- save the country.
Reginald DiodatiTroy, PAJanuary 17, 2008Will I live to see the day Congress actually cuts spending? I'm almost 80.
Mrs. Jean NepsundWestlake Village, CAJanuary 17, 2008It is time to say that "Earmarks" are deducted from the salary of the requesting congressman. Earmarks must be stopped. The BUDGET MUST BE Balanced ! ! ! Mrs. Jean Nepsund
Cathy CurrieVictoria, TXJanuary 17, 2008We need to rid our congress of programs that drain our taxpapers. We need honesty in government.
Janeen KaneCibolo, TXJanuary 17, 2008Republicans have lost their way - no longer are we considered "conservative" - you can do something to help. Make sure that Jeff Flake gets the appropriations committee assignment. I have stopped all contributions to the Republican party - when I see some changes maybe I'll support the party again.
